Williamsburg, Va. - March 16, 2019 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team finished third in a quad meet hosted at William & Mary University on Saturday afternoon, competing against Army, Temple, and the host Tribe.
Army won the competition with a 394.000, closely followed by host William & Mary's mark of 391.950. The Pride took third with 375.250 and Temple rounded out the scoring with a 348.600.
In the all-around, Stephen Lewis (Baltimore, Md.) took third among the seven student-athletes in the competition with a 76.100, while teammate Trevor Lamberton (Willow Spring, N.C.) registered a 73.450.
On the floor exercise, John Murphy (Hilo, Hawaii) posted a career-high mark of 13.450 to pace Springfield's efforts, while Lamberton turned in a 13.300. Nick Cramer (Lincoln, Neb.) had Springfield's best showing on the pommel horse as he tied for eighth in the competition with a 12.400, closely followed by Lewis who totaled a 12.250.
Lewis was credited with a 13.200 as he finished fourth on the rings and Christian Wilkey Jr. (Lowell, Mass.) added a score of 12.650. Noah Candocia (Bradenton, Fla.) put together another impressive showing on the vault, finishing as the runner up on the event with a 14.150, while Murphy tacked on another career-best showing with a 13.550.
Jannik Haas (San Jose, Calif.) placed third on the parallel bars after producing a a 13.200, with Wilkey Jr. earning a 12.550 to finish in seventh place. Rounding out the afternoon on the horizontal bar, both Haas and Kyle Lukaesko (Connellsville, Pa.) were credited with scores of 12.900 to finish in a tie for seventh to lead Springfield.
The Pride will now turn its focus to the USAG Championships, which will take place March 29-30 in Annapolis, Md.
