Fourth-Quarter Surge Leads Western New England Past Men's Lacrosse, 13-8

Springfield, Mass. - April 2, 2015 - Despite trailing by one heading into the final quarter, the Springfield College men's lacrosse team surrendered five goals in the final 15 minutes of play as it dropped a 13-8 decision to crosstown rival Western New England on Thursday afternoon.

Western New England improves to 7-4 with the win, while the Pride dropped its third-straight to drop to 3-5.

Dylan Sheehan (Massapequa, N.Y.) led Springfield with two goals and an assist, while Bryce Serriello (Cape Cod, Mass.) found the back of the cage twice.  Brendan Dooley (Setauket, N.Y.) snagged a team-best seven ground balls and Chris Santaniello (West Springfield, Mass.) made 12 stops in the final three quarters of action.

The Pride earned a 2-1 lead over the hosts midway through the opening quarters thanks to goals from Kevin Dean (Westhampton, N.Y.) and Joey Raniolo (Yorktown, N.Y.).  However, WNE responded with the game's next five goals over a 10-plus minute span to regain a 6-2 cushion with 12:54 left in the first half.

Springfield answered with three of the game's next four goals, as strikes from Dom Abate (Beverly, Mass.) and Serriello sandwiched a Sheehan man-up marker to pull Springfield within 7-5 with 2:38 on the clock.  The Golden Bears would close out the first-half scoring with a goal with 38 ticks remaining to head into the break with an 8-5 lead.

The Pride scored the only two goals of the third quarter thanks to Sheehan and Serriello both potting unassisted markers to make it a one-goal game heading into the final 15 minutes of action.

In the fourth, the Golden Bears scored five-unanswered goals, including four in a span of 3:05 as it pulled away with the win.  Matt Dalton (Somers, N.Y.) netted the final goal of the game on a feed from Brendan Boss (West Springfield, Mass.), his second helper of the day, with less than three minutes left in regulation.

Springfield will return to conference action when it hosts Mass. Maritime at 1:00 pm.
