Norton, Mass. - April 18, 2015 - Five points from senior attackman Dylan Sheehan (Massapequa, N.Y.), including three goals and two assists, along with a four-goal performance from Bryce Serriello (Barnstable, Mass.) led the Springfield College men's lacrosse team to a 14-6 win over Wheaton on Saturday afternoon on Nordin Field.
With the win, Springfield improves to 7-7 overall and 4-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), while the Lyons fall to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in league play.
Along with Sheehan and Serriello, senior attackman Kevin Sainte (Belmont, Mass.) registered a pair of goals, while freshman Duncan Preston (South Portland, Maine) registered a goal and an assist. In net, Chris Santaniello (West Springfield, Mass.) posted five stops on 11 shots in the contest.
For Wheaton, Ryan Gjerset (Austin, Texas) led the way with four points, including a goal and three helpers, while Ryan Clair (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) made 21 saves on 35 Springfield shots on the afternoon.
Overall, Springfield held the advantage in ground balls, 43-24, as well as shots, 47-28, and went 15-for-18 on its clears. In the faceoff "x", Mark Gonzalez (Tolland, Conn.) went 16-for-22 on the day, while Tyler Heckmann (Brookfield, Conn.) won both of his draws in the win.
Springfield raced out to a 5-0 lead through the first 10:24 of play as Serriello guided the attack with three goals including the game opener at the 12:16 mark. Sainte and Sheehan added the other two, as Sheehan collected an assist from Jamey Conley (Waltham, Mass.) and found the back of the net with 9:02 left in the opening quarter.
Up next, Springfield will travel to Clark University on Wednesday, April 22 for a 7 p.m. contest.
