Worcester, Mass. - April 22, 2015 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team raced out to an 11-3 lead early in the third quarter and never looked back as it picked up a 13-7 victory at Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Wednesday night.
The win boosts the Pride's record to 8-7, 5-1 in league play while the Cougars fall to 7-7, 2-4.
Highlighting the win was Bryce Serriello (Cape Cod, Mass.), who netted the 100th goal of his Springfield career, becoming the 18th player in program history to reach the milestone, joining teammate Dylan Sheehan (Massapequa, N.Y.) who hit the mark earlier this season. The senior midfielder registered a hat trick in the win, while Sheehan handed out four assists.
Brendan Boss (West Springfield, Mass.) added three goals and an assist, Jamey Conley (Waltham, Mass.) produced two goals and two helpers, and Tony LaGuerre (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) tacked on three goals. Mark Gonzalez (Tolland, Conn.) was dominant at the face-off "X", going 19-for-24 with 16 ground balls, and Chris Santaniello (West Springfield, Mass.) earned the win in goal after tallying 10 saves.
The Pride jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks to a pair of strikes from Boss. The Cougars would cut Springfield's lead in half, 6-3, with 9:32 left in the half before LaGuerre buried a man-up goal off Sheehan's third assist of the half to put the visitors up 7-3 after 30 minutes of play.
Springfield netted four goals in the first 3:09 of the third quarter, getting goals from Conley, Boss, LaGuerre, and Serriello, to see its lead grow to 11-3. The hosts closed out the stanza with three unaswered goals, only to have Conley and Serriello open the fourth with goals as the Pride cruised to the 13-7 win.
Springfield will conclude its regular season on Saturday when it hosts MIT starting at 1:00 pm.
