Amherst, Mass. - May 23, 2018 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team had five student-athletes who were named to the 2018 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Academic All-New England teams.
A total of 92 men's lacrosse student-athletes from Division I, II, and III institutions in New England were honored, including 46 student-athletes from 20 different Division III institutions. The honorees needed to meet the requirement of a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, and be a significant enough player that he was nominated for at least all-conference selection.
Bowdoin College led all institutions with eight candidates this year, followed by Harvard University, who had seven All-Academic selections. Yale University had six nominees, while St. Michael's and Springfield College each had five selections.
Springfield's honorees included Chris Cunnington (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.; Physical Education), Anthony Febbo (Yonkers, N.Y.; Computer Science), JT Kapnis (Salem, Mass.; Physical Education), Jake Reynolds (Scituate, Mass.; Health Care Management), and Jack Vail (Franklin, Mass.; Business Management).
Under their leadership, Springfield won their 11th-straight conference championship and appeared in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament before concluding the year with a 13-6 record.
