No. 24 Stevens Pulls Away From Men's Soccer, 2-0

Hoboken, N.J. - September 8, 2019 - Competing for the third time this week, the Springfield College men's soccer team was upended by nationally-ranked Stevens, 2-0, in a non-conference contest at the DeBaun Athletic Complex on Sunday night.

Stevens, who was ranked 24th in the country in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, improved to 4-0, while the Pride dropped to 1-3-1.

Chris Prizio (Trumbull, Conn.) played the second half between the pipes for the Pride and registered seven saves.  Qasim El-Ashkar (Salem, Mass.) played the first half for the Pride and held the Ducks scoreless while not making a save.

After a scoreless first half, Stevens finally broke through in the 64th minute. Following a centering pass from the right flank, Sean Masur was able to dribble past Prizio before connecting with Stephen Johnson, who was able to to tuck his bid past a sprawling Springfield defender and into the back of the net.  The Ducks struck for another goal just over two minutes later as Bailey Gano was able to catch Prizio off guard with a strike from outside the 18-yard box off a feed from Jon Valcarce.

Stevens held a 16-5 edge in shots for the game and took eight corner kicks compared to just two for the Pride.

Next up for Springfield will be a battle with Wesleyan in Connecticut on Wednesday at 4:30 pm.
