Wheaton Squeaks Past Men's Soccer, 1-0

Norton, Mass. – November 2, 2019- In their final game of the 2019 campaign, the Springfield College men's soccer team fell 1-0 on the road to Wheaton College at Keefe Stadium.

Springfield College closes their season with a 4-13-1 mark and a 2-5 NEWMAC record. Wheaton College improves to 9-7-1 and 4-3 in the conference. Wheaton edged Springfield in shots 15-13.

The first half of play was held in a stalemate for the entire period. At the 22-minute mark, the Lyons looked to press Springfield with a pair of shots, but Chris Prizio (Trumbull, Mass.) made a pair of saves to keep the game at a scoreless tie. The score remained 0-0 after one half.

In the 55th-minute, Jack Rosenberg (Simsbury, Conn.) would aggressively attack the Wheaton defense and force a corner, where he would get another chance at the lead for the Pride, but come up short.

At 58:27, the Lyons would strike as Chris Brubaker would capitalize on a free kick from inside the box as his bid from six yards out deflected off a Springfield defender and into the back of the net. The Pride would ramp up their offensive attack in the final minutes with shots on goal from Andrew Ma (Upper Saddle River, N.J.), but the Lyons would keep the Springfield attack at bay for the 1-0 win. Prizio was credited with six saves in the loss.
