Babson Park, Mass. – January 30, 2010 – The Springfield College men’s swimming and diving team cruised to a 170-127 victory over conference-foe Babson College on Saturday afternoon. Brian Sobel re-established his school record in the one-meter diving competition as he recorded a 336.10 on the day.
The Pride opened up the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay as Travis Morse, Tim Russell, Tim Ramos, and Mike DeMellia touched first in 3:51.01. Springfield had a handful of individual winners on the day as Tony Lambertson won in 10:19.43 and Matt Manoni claimed first in the 200 free in 1:48.37. Manoni also won the 100 free with a time of 49.42.
Josh Ernst was victorious in the 50 back in 26.23, Ramos won the 100 fly in 55.64, and Morse took the 100 back as he touched in 56.60.
In the 100 breast, Sean Pennington finished first in 1:07.49, while the 500 free was won by John MacDonald in 5:06.43.
Sobel’s record-setting performance on the one-meter gave earned him first place, while he took second on the three-meter with a mark of 317.25.
Springfield’s final dual meet of the season is next Saturday when it travels to take on Amherst College.
