Springfield, Mass. — January 23, 2010 — The Williams College men’s swimming & diving team defeated their counterparts from Springfield College, 172-119, this afternoon at SC’s Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Williams was certainly the dominating team, starting fast, and never letting up. It was Springfield’s last home meet of the season.
There were relatively few bright spots for the Pride, at least in terms of first place finishes. One of those bright spots came in the 100-yard breaststroke where SC senior Ryan Mackstutis (Torrington, Conn.) placed first with a time of 1:00.76. Chris Corbett of Williams placed second in that event with a time of 1:01.17.
The other area where the Springfield men shined came in the diving events. Springfield went 1-2-3 in the one-meter diving, led by junior Brian Sobel (Stratford, Conn.) with 329.25 points. Behind Sobel were freshman Kenny Pancoast (Monroe, Conn.) with 269.40 points, and senior Matt Fitzgerald (Pelham, N.H.) with 258.30 points.
In three-meter diving, SC went 1-2-3. This time the order was Sobel with a score of 337.06, Fitzgerald second at 318.15, and Pancoast third at 251.99.
The Springfield men will compete next Saturday, Jan. 30 at Babson at 1:00 pm.
