Sobel and Avdoulos Sweep NEWMAC Men’s Diving Awards

Babson Park, Mass. – March 5, 2010 – For the second consecutive year, the duo of Brian Sobel and Pete Avdoulos swept the post-season diving awards as they have both been honored by the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Sobel was named the NEWMAC Men’s Diver of the Year for the second time, while Avdoulos was selected as the Men’s Diving Coach of the Year for the third straight year.

After missing the first half of the season, Sobel has been sensational since his return to the diving well as he captured his second straight NEWMAC Diver of the Year honor. At NEWMAC’s, Sobel swept the competition as he took home the one-meter crown with a school-record score of 542.05 before winning the three-meter with a mark of 512.25. Sobel was named the NEWMAC Diver of the Week five-straight weeks in the second semester.

For Avdoulos, he continues to prove he is one of the finest diving coaches in the country as he picks up the conference coach of the year accolade for the third-straight year. Overall, in his 25th season overseeing the Springfield diving corps, he has been named the NEWMAC Men’s Diving Coach of the Year now five times in his career. At the conference championships, the Pride had three of the top four finishers on both boards.
