Men’s Swimming and Diving Edges Middlebury, 143.5-135.5

Middlebury, Vt. – November 22, 2009 – The Springfield College men’s swimming and diving team remained perfect so far this season as it edged regional-rival Middlebury College, 143.5-135.5 on Sunday afternoon.

Pacing the Pride to its fifth victory of the season was Andrew Blakesley, Ryan Mackstutis and Matt Fitzgerald, all of whom won a pair of events in the meet.

Blakesley was victorious in the 200 IM (2:03.20) and the 500 free (5:04.55 ), while Mackstutis took first in the 100 breast (1:01.47) and the 50 breast (28.65). Fitzgerald continued his winning ways on the diving boards as he swept the diving competition with wins in the three-meter (287.33) and the one-meter (258.00). His performance on the three-meter once again met national qualifying standards, the second time he reached that mark this weekend.

The only other individual winner on the day for Springfield was Nolan Manley, who picked up a win in the 200 free in 1:50.12.

After a busy weekend, Springfield will not compete again till it heads to the Harold Anderson Invitational on December 4-5 at the University of Rhode Island.
