Middlebury, Vt, – January 11, 2014 - Jack Lewis (Durham, N.H.) swept both diving events despite a 181.5-116.5 loss to host Middlebury for the Springfield College men’s swimming & diving team on Saturday.
Lewis won the 1-meter board with a score of 272.10 and the 3-meter board with a score of 285.53. The Pride did well on the diving board, sweeping the top three spots in both events. Michael Card (Fairless Hills, Pa.) finished second on the 3-meter board (256.13) and third on the 1-meter (240) while teammate Pat Smith (Niskayuna, N.Y.) was runner-up on the 1-meter (265.88) and placed third on the 3-meter (233.10).
Jason Scotto (Southbury, Conn.) was the winner in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.78. He also placed third in both the 50 free (22.73) and the 100 free (49.37).
Michael Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.) also swam well for the Pride, winning the 100 breaststroke (59.51) and placing second in the 50 breaststroke (27.65) and third in the 100 IM (56.29).
Hayden Cassidy (Ada, Mich.) earned a pair of second place finishes in the 50 free (22.72) and the 100 free (49.19). Daniel Fay (Yorktown, N.Y.) placed second in the 100 back (57.01) and Phillip Murphy (Holyoke, Mass.) was third in the 500 free (5:01.61). Pat Geraghty (Holyoke, Mass.) (24.94) and Benjamin Ernst (West Springfield, Mass.) (25.00) took second and third in the 50 fly.
The 400 medley relay team of Fay, Normoyle, Ernst and Cassidy placed second with a time of 3:41.68. The 400 free relay team of Ernst, Cassidy, Fay and Scotto swam to a second place finish in 3:19.97.
The Pride will compete at NYU on January 18 at 1:00 p.m.
