Ithaca, N.Y. - December 6, 2014 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving program continued to put forth a strong showing at the Ithaca Invitational on the second day of the three-day meet, as the Pride currently sit in fifth place with 653.5 points thus far.
Beginning the afternoon session with the 4x50 Free Relay, the team of Hayden Cassidy (Ada, Mich.), Michael Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.), Jimmy Stinehart (Southwick, Mass.) and Kent Parsons (Hamilton, Mass.) put forth a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:28.65.
In the 100 Fly, the Pride's top finisher was Daniel Fay (Yorktown, N.Y.) with a timem of 53.85, while Parson's was a close second with a time of 54.25 and Normoyle right behind him with a time of 54.95. In the 200 Free, Parson's had the most impressive performance of the afternoon for the Pride, swimming a 1:47.52 to finish tied for 13th overall in the event.
Wrapping up the session, the 4x100 Medley Relay team of Fay, Normoyle, Parsons and Cassidy posted a time of 3:35.34 to finish seventh overall.
In the evening session, Fay was the top finisher for the Pride in the 100 Back with a time of 55.02, while Phillip Murphy (Holyoke, Mass.) finished atop the Pride's leaderboard when he posted a 2:05.10 in the 200 Fly. Normoyle was most impressive in the nightcap, as the junior posted a 59.24 in the 100 Breast to finish seventh overall in the event.
Senior Diver Jack Lewis (Durham, N.H.) posted another impressive performance in the evening session, nationally qualifying on the 3-meter board as well with a score of 488.65.
The Pride will close out the third and final day of the Inviational tomorrow at 10 a.m.
