Worcester, Mass.-February 19, 2015- Senior Jack Lewis (Durham, N.H.) repeated as the one-meter champion at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Thursday evening after he registered an score of 510.60.
The reigning NEWMAC Men's Diver of the Year's victory marked the 15th-straight NEWMAC Championships diving event that was won by a Springfield College men's diver and was also the second-straight year that the Recreation Management major claimed the top spot on the one-meter board. Earlier in the meet, Lewis scored a 546.03 in prelims, setting a new facility record.
As a team, the Pride lead the seven-team field with 144 points, followed by WPI (99) and Coast Guard (77).
The Pride had a strong showing overall on the board, as it claimed five out of the top eight spots. Liam Barnes (Cheshire, Conn.) (434.97) claimed third place, closely by Michael Card (Fairless Hills, Pa.) (425.40) and Trevor Sniffin (Brookfield, Conn.) (416.55), who took fourth and fifth respectively. Additionally, Nicholas Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) totaled a 364.11 to finish eighth.
In the pool, Springfield's 800 free relay finished fifth as the squad of Daniel Fay (Yorktown, N.Y.), Kent Parsons (Hamilton, Mass.), Austin Van Heeringen (Germantown, Md.) and Hayden Cassidy (Ada, Mich.) combined to swim a 7:01.26.
The Pride will return to the pool tomorrow at 10:00am for the second day of the four day NEWMAC Championships.
