Men's Swimming and Diving Competes in Tri-Meet with URI and Coast Guard

Springfield, Mass. - October 31, 2015 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving program split a tri-meet against URI and Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon at the Art Linkletter Natatorium. The Pride beat URI 209-61, but were defeated by Coast Guard 186-108. 

Springfield opened up competition with a win in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Austin Von Heeringen (Germantown, Md.), Michael Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.), Kent Parsons (Hamilton, Mass.) and Sammy Grudzien (Fiskdale, Mass) finished in 1:39.77. 

Daniel Fay (Yorktown, N.Y.) placed second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:24.78, while Parsons followed for a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:49.98. 

Von Herringen earned his second and third wins of the day in the 100 backstroke in 55.29 and the 200 backstroke in 2:00.95. Von Herringen then finished second in the 500 freestyle in 5:00.51.

Normoyle followed with a first place finish in both the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.15 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:13.69, before placing second in the 200 IM in 2:04.33. 

Parsons touched first in the 100 freestyle to win in 49.93.  

The 400 freestyle relay team of Grudzien, Tim DeCoste (Greenville, R.I.), Alex Beauvais (Ipswich, Mass.), and Fay finished the day for the Pride in second place in 3:22.40. 

Springfield will compete next Saturday at MIT, with competition starting at 1:00 pm.
