Amherst, Mass. - January 31, 2016 - Competing in its second meet of the weekend, the Springfield College men's swimming and diving program fell to No. 9 Amherst College, 223-57, at Pratt Pool on Sunday afternoon.
Standout sophomore Austin Von Heeringen (Germantown, Md.) put forth an impressive meet for the Pride, as he posted a second-place finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:26.53, while also finishing as the runner up in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:56.12. Additionally, Von Heeringen registered a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.44, and was a member of the 200 medley relay team, along with Michael Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.), Kent Parsons (Hamilton, Mass.) and Sammy Grudzien (Fiskdale, Mass.), that finished in 1:39.52.
Normoyle put together a strong performance in the 100 breaststroke, as he finished second overall with a time of 58.93, before posting a time of 49.46 in the 100 freestyle, good for fourth overall. Additionally, Daniel Fay (Yorktown, N.Y.) recorded a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.49, before touching third in the 200 back with a time of 2:02.98.
In the diving events, Nick Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) placed second overall on both boards, as he posted a score of 307.50 on the 3-meter, and a score of 307.05 on the 1-meter.
This upcoming weekend the Pride will play host to Holy Cross on Saturday, February 6 in the Art Linkletter Natatorium at 1 p.m.
