Worcester, Mass. - February 21, 2019 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team kicked off the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Thursday night at WPI and was led by the efforts of sophomore Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.).
Competing on the three-meter board, Pennington earned NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference honors as he finished as the runner-up in the event for the second-straight year with a regional-qualifying mark of 518.10. Teammate Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) finished fourth in the event with a 438.15, while Valmore Stewart (Windsor, Conn.) placed fifth after posting a 428.90.
Springfield's 800 free relay also competed on the night, and the squad of Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.), Nicholas Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.), Vladimir Burnin (Sosnovy Bor, Leningrad Oblast, Russia), and Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.) swam a 6:59.50 to finish in sixth place.
Following the two events, Springfield sits in second place among the seven teams in the field with 119 points.
