Middlebury, Vt. - November 23, 2019 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving program was edged by Middlebury College, 174-124, on Saturday afternoon.
In the 200 medley relay, Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.), Anthony Soares (Worcester, Mass.), Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.), and James Chan (Hong Kong) combined to produce a 1:38.84 in the first event of the afternoon.
Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.) led a strong showing by Springfield's divers as he won the three-meter with a 344.55 and also claimed first-place points after totaling a 337.13 on the one-meter.
Jensen cruised to a victory in the 1,000 free when he touched in 10:15.10, recorded a 50.06 in the 100 free, and concluded the 50 fly in 24.75. Chan touched first in the 200 free in 1:47.77, was victorious in the 100 fly in 53.03, and also won the 200 IM in 2:02.05. Harnish won the 50 back in 25.74 and placed second in the 500 free in 5:00.54.
Soares had the Pride's best time in the 50 breast in 28.58 and later totaled a 1:04.00 in the 100 breast, while Dominic Marco (Bath, Maine) sprinted his way to a 23.02 in the 50 free Owen Oldenburg (East Longmeadow, Mass.) also registered a 56.30 in the 100 back.
Up next for Springfield will be WPI's Gompei Invitational, which will take place from December 6-8.
