Cambridge, Mass. - April 20, 2019 - The Springfield College men's tennis team was downed by host MIT, 9-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday morning.
Playing in the JB Carr Tennis Bubble, the Pride dropped to 5-9, 0-5 in conference matches on the season. MIT, which was ranked 32nd nationally in the most recent poll, is now 10-5, 6-0 in the NEWMAC.
In doubles play, Springfield's top squad of Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) and Drew DeLorenzo (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) battled in an 8-4 setback, while in singles action, Honda had Springfield's best showing as he nearly pulled off the victory at the No. 1 spot before falling by a 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 score. Jack Anastopoulos (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) also performed well for the Pride at the No. 4 position in a 6-3, 6-2 loss.
Springfield will close out the season on Wednesday when it travels to Worcester to face Clark at 4 pm.
