Springfield, Mass. - September 19, 2019 - The Springfield College men's tennis team competed on Appleton Courts for the first time and eased past visiting Regis College by a 9-0 decision on Thursday.
Springfield began the match with a strong showing in doubles play, led by James Foley (Fair Haven, N.J.) and Lucas Van Deventer (Ellington, Conn.), who earned an 8-1 win at the No. 3 spot. Jack Wheeler (Irvine, Calif.) and Fabian Jensen (Stavanger, Norway) followed with an 8-2 win at No. 1 and Mike Kendrick (Albany, N.Y.) and Hieu Ton (Rocky Hill, Conn.) concluded doubles with an 8-3 triumph at No. 2.
Freddie Moffa (Granby, Conn.) delivered a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. singles 4 for Springfield, while Jack Anastopoulos (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) clinched the win for Springfield with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6. Greg Baker (Princeton, N.J.) turned in a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3, and Ton posted a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5. Wheeler cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 and Kendrick sealed the sweep with a 7-6, 7-6 victory at No. 2.
Springfield will host St. Michael's on Saturday at 1 pm in their next outing.
