Springfield, Mass. – October 6, 2009 – Springfield College head men’s volleyball coach Charlie Sullivan will serve as an assistant coach for the United States Men’s National Volleyball Team when it competes in the NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship on Oct. 12-18 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
“Any time I get to work with the national team, it is a true honor,” said Sullivan. ” I look forward to contributing in helping the team achieve success as its ultimate goal.”
The national team, which is currently ranked third in the world, will compete in the NORCECA quaifying tournament with the hopes of earning a bid to the FIVB Grand Champions Cup that will be held November 18-23 in Osaka and Nagoya, Japan.
Sullivan has spent time as an assistant with the United States National Team in several other instances. In November of 2007, he traveled to Japan for the 2007 FIVB World Cup. Sullivan previously worked in the same capacity for the 2006 World Championships, which were also held in Japan. He also helped the U.S. record a third-place finish in the 2007 World League tournament, their best finish since 1992, when they also finished third.
