Danbury, Conn. - February 20, 2018 - The Springfield College men's volleyball duo Eli Irizarry Pares (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Eli Gabriel Irizarry Pares (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) were recognized for their efforts last weekend by sweeping the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III North Men's Volleyball weekly honors.
Irizarry Pares was tabbed the ECAC Player of the Week after he helped the top-ranked Springfield College squad run their winning streak to 13 matches as it swept St. Joseph's and No. 13 Wentworth over the weekend. The AVCA All-America libero played outside hitter for the first time in his career against St. Joseph's and dominated with 15 kills at a .667 hitting percentage to go along with four digs and two blocks. Against Wentworth, Irizarry Pares went back to libero and totaled a match-high eight digs and added three assists while anchoring a defensive unit that held the Leopards to just a .028 hitting percentage.
Gabriel Irizarry Pares earned ECAC Rookie of the Week accolades after a standout weekend for the Pride. Against 13th-ranked Wentworth, Irizarry Pares directed Springfield, the top-ranked
Division III team in the country, to a .412 hitting percentage as he handed out 29 assists while adding four kills, four blocks, and a pair of digs. To date, Springfield has the top team
hitting percentage in the country and has won its last 23 sets.
The Pride will hit the courts again on Wednesday when it hosts nationally-ranked Vassar at 7 pm in Dana Gymnasium.
