Leominster, Mass. - September 1, 2018 - The Springfield College men's cross country opened the 2018 season at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invite, hosted by Fitchburg State. The Pride finished fourth overall with 84 points on the day, as it was led by graduate student Jack Pinho (Prospect, Conn.), who took third overall on the 8k course.
UMass Dartmouth came in first with 50 points, as Fitchburg took second in the meet with 74. Worcester State took third with 83 points, as the Pride followed with 84 and took fourth in the meet.
Pinho produced a time of 26:43 to finish third overall, as he averaged a 5.22 mile while he was closely followed by senior Tyler Cronin (Melrose, Mass.), who crossed 11th overall, notching a time of 27:56. Next up for Springfield College was Owen Ross (Closter, N.J.), who took 16th in the meet with a time of 28:08, while Chris Tringali (Millville, Mass.) registered a time of 28:53 to also finish in the top 20. Rounding out the top five for the maroon and white was Ryan Vermette (Nashua, N.H.), as the sophomore turned in a time of 29:57.
Springfield College will next compete on Saturday, September 8 at the Smith College Invitational in Northampton, Mass.
