Dartmouth, Mass. - September 21, 2019 - Racing for the first time since August 31, the Springfield College men's cross country team finished 13th at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The 47th annual event featured a total 36 teams from across the region and included Division I, II, and III institutions. Springfield scored 377 points as a team to place 13th and was the second-best finisher for programs from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
After winning the Early Bird Invitational to start of the year, the Pride's efforts on the five-mile course was led by Ryan Vermette (Nashua, N.H.), who finished 44th among the 257 student-athletes in the race with a time of 26:40.88. Chris Tringali (Millville, Mass.) closely followed in 27:06.41 as he took 59th individually, while first-year Ryan Caldwell (Danbury, Conn.) clocked in at 27:22.84.
John DeRosa (Shelton, Conn.) crossed the finish line in 28:11.63 and classmate Josh Ladd (Berlin, Conn.) was right behind him in 28:35.85. Rounding out the Pride's runners on the day were Russell Allen (Auburn, Maine), who posted a 28:50.12 and Dylan Gasiorowski (Rockaway, N.J.), who ran a 29:14.31.
Springfield will compete again next Saturday when it heads to the Berkshires for the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College.
