Boston, Mass. - November 3, 2019 - For the second-straight year, the Springfield College men's cross country team finished fourth at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships at Franklin Park on Sunday.
It marked the first time since 2011-12 that the Pride recorded back-to-back finishes within the top four at the conference championship meet.
MIT once again claimed the title with 18 points, while WPI was second with 45. Coast Guard was third with 99 points, followed by the Pride's team total of 122. Babson scored 156 points for fifth, while Wheaton (158), Emerson (212), and Clark (228) rounded out the eight-team field.
Russell Allen (Auburn, Maine) and Ryan Vermette (Nashua, N.H.) led Springfield's efforts as the duo crossed the finish line together at 27:14 and 27:16 respectively to each finish in the top 25. First-year Ryan Caldwell (Danbury, Conn.) completed the 8k course in 27:47, while Chris Tringali (Millville, Mass.) and Dylan Gasiorowski (Rockaway, N.J.) both produced times of 28:01.
Springfield College will now prepare to race in the NCAA Division III Regional Championships, which will be run in Brunswick, Maine on Saturday, November 16.
