Springfield, Mass. - January 16, 2018 - Springfield College's Gracie Restituyo (Barrington, R.I.) of the women's basketball team was recognized for her outstanding play last week, as she was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week, announced on Tuesday morning.
Restituyo, a junior forward and Sports Biology major at Springfield College, helped the Pride to a 2-1 week as she averaged 16.3 points and 13.3 rebounds and produce three-consecutive double doubles in as many games. Beginning the week, Restituyo notched 16 points and 14 rebounds in a 61-52 win over MIT, before the junior registered 18 points and 13 boards in a loss to Smith. Closing out the week, Restituyo tallied 15 points and 13 rebounds, 11 of which were defensive boards, in an 80-50 victory over Emerson.
Restituyo and the Pride will return to action on Saturday, January 20 as it will head to Babson for a 1 p.m. clash with the Beavers.
