Weymouth, Mass. - January 13, 2015 - Seniors Abby Clark (Holderness, N.H.) and Lauren Pocius (Wallingford, Conn.) were recognized by the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) late Monday evening, as the pair picked up regional honors after their impressive performances in a pair of meets this past weekend.
Clark earned NCGA East Region All-Around Gymnast of the Week, while Pocius was selected as the NCGA East Region Specialist Gymnast of the Week as the Pride began the season competing against Division-II Southern Connecticut State on Friday, before traveling to Rhode Island College for a meet on Sunday.
Clark was more than impressive against Rhode Island College where she finished first among four all-around competitors in the Pride's first win of the season. The Rehabilitation and Disability Studies major's score of 37.00 was bolstered by a first-place finish on the floor with 9.625. Her consistency was evident in her scores across the board with vault (9.075), bars (9.0) and beam (9.3) to help Springfield secure the win over RIC, 184.65 to 174.6.
As for Pocius, the senior posted back-to-back impressive performances as the Pride competed in two meets in three days. On Friday against Division-II Southern Connecticut State University, Pocius earned an individual title on the Uneven Bars as the Occupational Therapy major registered a score of 9.450, while picking up a sixth-place finish in the vault with a 9.425 and tied for fifth overall with a 9.50 in the floor exercise. On Sunday against RIC, Pocius was stellar in the three events she participated in, posting a third-place finish on the vault with a score of 9.150, before posting a 9.100 on the uneven bars and 9.425 in the floor exercise.
The Pride will return to action on Saturday, January 17 when it will travel to SUNY Brockport for a meet beginning at 1 p.m.
