Cortland, N.Y. - January 31, 2015 - The Springfield College women's gymnastics team posted a season-high 185.675 points, but it proved not to be enough as the program suffered a 186.675-185.875 setback to SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon in Corey Gym. With the loss, the Pride falls to 2-3 on the season, while the Red Dragons picked up its first win of the season and now stand at 1-3 overall.
Junior Kristin Feliu (Elkridge, Md.) was the only member of the Pride to finish first overall, as she finished tied for first with Meghan Goyden (Endwell, Maine) on the vault with a score of 9.450. After Feliu and Goyden, freshman Madi Bowen (Sunderland, Mass.) took third place with a score of 9.400 and senior captain Abby Clark (Holderness, N.H.) finished fourth overall with a score of 9.300.
On the Uneven Bars, freshman Briana Kerr (Bolton, Conn.) was the Pride's top finisher with a score of 9.375, tying for second place in the event. After Kerr, sophomore Marissa DeAngelo (Brookfield, Conn.) placed fourth with a score of 9.350. As for the Beam, Lauren Pocius (Wallingford, Conn.) took third overall with a score of 9.650, while DeAngelo finished fourth with a 9.500 and Ashley Parchinski (Chester, N.Y.) seventh with a 9.225.
Lastly, on the Floor Exercise, Pocius and Clark headlined the event for the Pride, scoring 9.450 and 9.425 respectively, while Nicole Silva (Barrington, R.I.) and DeAngelo tied for fifth with 9.350. Clark and Pocius were the only two in the meet to compete in the All-Around competition, with Clark taking first with a score of 36.800 and Pocius second with a 36.675.
Springfield will travel to Yale University on Saturday, Feb. 7 for a 1 p.m. meet with the Bulldogs.
