New London, Conn. - September 15, 2018 - The Springfield College women's soccer team scored three times in the second half and cruised to a 3-0 win over Coast Guard at Cadet Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon.
Following the Pride's first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest of the season, Springfield College is now 5-0-1 on the year with a 1-0 mark against league opponents. The loss drops Coast Guard to 3-2 overall with an 0-1 start in conference play.
In net, senior goalkeeper Izzy Inglese (Wolcott, Conn.) had three saves, as Amanda Wright (Pittsfield, Mass.), Mackenzie Luiz (Newington, Conn.) and Alyana Sosa (Naugatuck, Conn.) all registered goals for Springfield College.
After a scoreless first half, the Pride came out firing on all cylinders in the second, as Wright tucked home a pass from Sara Swetland (Manchester, N.H.) just 1:26 into the stanza, before Luiz buried an unassisted strike in the 60th minute to give the maroon and white a 2-0 advantage.
Just 1:38 later, Sosa took in a pass from Sydney Wine (New Braintree, Mass.) and found the back of the net to give Springfield College some insurance, which would result in the 3-0 victory for the Pride.
Up next, the Pride will head to No. 1 Williams College, as Springfield College takes on the Ephs on Sunday, September 16 at 1 p.m.
