Westminster, Md. - November 24, 2019 - The Springfield College women's soccer team dropped the ECAC Championship match to McDaniel College with a decision of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Green Terror Complex.
Springfield closes the season at 14-7-3 while McDaniel collects their second consecutive ECAC title. Springfield College was awarded nine corners in the setback.
In the first half, the Pride and Green Terror sat in a tightly-contested battle. The host put three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of the period, but Caitlin Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.) swiped away each attempt. Springfield received a strong attempt at the 33rd-minute from Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.), but Katherine Cartensen knocked it away. Immediately, Adalia Malick (Bristol, Conn.) blistered a shot on the ricochet, but Cartensen dove for another save. The Pride would have ten shots in period, but score remained in a scoreless tie half way through the title game.
The second half continued to be tight, but McDaniel ramped up the offensive approach with five chances early. The Pride's defense held strong with Normoyle collected a pair of saves in the stretch. At 61:59, McDaniel broke the tie after Hannah Schepers rifled in a shot to the top right corner to give the Green Terror a 1-0 advantage. Four minutes later, McDaniel would add more insurance to their lead as Schepers connect with another score off a throw in. Springfield would look to attempt their comeback with four-straight corners, but McDaniel would coast to the championship victory.
The All-Tournament team was announced shortly after the contest with Dale, Chrissy Conley (Bristol, R.I.), Maddy Bonavita (Wilbraham, Mass.), Sara Swetland (Manchester, N.H.) all earning a spot on the team.
