Norton, Mass. – September 22, 2012 – The Springfield College women’s tennis team dropped a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest to host Wheaton College, 7-2, at the Clark Tennis Courts.
Wheaton saw its overall record improve to 3-1 and league mark even out at 1-1, while the Pride is now 2-2 and 0-2.
The hosts took two of three doubles points, including at the top spot when junior Lyndsay Cooke and sophomore Alexandra Marlowe overcame a 3-0 deficit before storming back to win 8-4.
Juniors Morgan Bell and Sarah Crom matched the first doubles result, as they doubled up their counterparts in the second position.
Springfield seniors Amy Buttarazzi and Erin Woodbury emerged victorious by an 8-2 count in the third doubles spot.
The Lyons secured wins in five singles matches. Marlowe blanked her opponent in the second slot, while Cooke and Crom surrendered one game apiece at one and four, respectively.
Boggis posted a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at six, and freshman Caroline DiNicola-Fawley turned in a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 win in the fifth spot.
Springfield’s lone singles victory was a 6-4, 6-4 win by Woodbury at number three.
The Pride is back in action next Saturday when it travels to Suffolk for a 2:00 pm meeting.
