Cambridge, Mass. - April 20, 2019 - The Springfield College women's tennis team was defeated by MIT, 9-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternooon.
The setback dropped Springfield to 10-5, 3-4 in conference play. The Engineers, ranked 16th nationally, improved to 10-3, 7-0 in conference play after claiming the victory in the JB Carr Tennis Bubble.
In doubles play, Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Juliette Piazza (Portland, Conn.) fell at the No. 1 spot by a score of 8-1. Parrish later dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision in singles at No. 1, while Piazza fell at No. 6 singles by a 6-2, 6-2 margin.
Springfield will play for the final time on Appleton Courts this season on Tuesday afternoon when it hosts Clark at 4 pm.
