Women's Tennis Picks Up 7-2 Win Over Colby-Sawyer In Season Opener

New London, N.H. - September 22, 2019 - The Springfield College women's tennis team opened up the season with a 7-2 triumph over Colby-Sawyer on Sunday at Kelsey Courts.

Springfield took two points in doubles action as the No. 3 team of Heidi Schuman (Averill Park, N.Y.) and Amanda Hill (East Longmeadow, Mass.) cruised to an 8-2 victory and Rachel Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J.) and Veronica Fulgieri (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) delivered an 8-4 win at No. 2. 

Schuman made quick work of her opponent at the No. 6 spot with a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Ahlmeyer followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4.  Rielly Malz (Glastonbury, Conn.) added a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 3 and Fulgieri eased her way to a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2.  Juliette Piazza (Portland, Conn.) rounded out the Pride's scoring on the day with a hard-fought 1-6, 6-4, 10-5 win at No. 5.

The Pride will stay on the road for a tilt with Johnson & Wales on Tuesday at 4 pm.
