Middlebury, Vt. - September 27, 2019 - Several members of the Springfield College women's tennis team competed in the ITA New England Regional Championship on Friday afternoon hosted at Middlebury College.
In singles play, Veronica Fulgieri (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) competed on the regional stage for the first time in her intercollegiate career and battled Maggie Dorr from Tufts, who entered the competition as the ninth seed. Fulgieri battled tough in the first set, dropping a 6-4 decision before falling by a 6-0 score in the second set. Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) also played singles for the Pride, and was bested by Ana Hatfield of Brandeis, 6-2, 6-2.
Heidi Schuman (Averill Park, N.Y.) and Rachel Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J.) drew the second seed in the doubles tournament in Middlebury's Katherine Hughes and Skylar Schossberger, and were defeated, 8-0.
Springfield will return to Appleton Courts to host American International College on Wednesday at 4 pm.
