Middletown, Conn. - February 3, 2018 - Senior Courtney Luscier (Pittsfield, Mass.) won the 60 meter dash and Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) won the 800 meter run as the Springfield College women's track and field team competed at the Wesleyan Invitational, hosted in the Bacon Field House on Saturday.
Luscier continued her strong senior season, as she clocked in at a season-best 7.85 seconds in the 60 meter dash prelims, before coming back in the finals and winning the race with a mark of 7.88 seconds. Luscier also took sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.22 seconds. Madeia won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.32. Also in the 800 meter run, Macayla LaChance (Peabody, Mass.) took fourth with a time of 2:27.82 and Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.) took sixth with a time of 2:28.86.
Distance specialists Rachel Wentnick (Metuchen, N.J.) and Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.) put forth impressive performances on Saturday, as Wentnick cruised to a third-place finish in the 5000 meter run, clocking in at 19:0.42, while Wunderlich took third in the mile with a time of 5:32.22. In the 60 meter high hurdles, Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) earned a spot in the finals with a time of 9.95 seconds in the prelims, before clocking in at 10.09 seconds in the finals, taking seventh overall.
In the field events, Taylor Nogiec (Berlin, Conn.) continued her strong freshman season as she tied for fourth in high jump, clearing 5 feet, 0.5 inches. Freshman Jaime Jax (Brooklyn, Conn.) took second in the triple jump with a distance of 33 feet, 11.25 inches.
