Springfield, Mass. - February 17, 2018 - The Springfield College women's track and field team served as host of the 2018 Division III New England Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, as the Pride had 14 student-athletes competing in the Field House.
As a team, the Pride finished 23rd overall with seven points. Williams won the meet with a team score of 149, while MIT was second with 127. Middlebury was third with 73, as Tufts (52) and Bowdoin (43) rounded out the top five.
Leading off the day in the distance medley relay, the team of Rachel Wentnick (Metuchen, N.J.), Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.), Laura Volan (Scarborough, Maine) and Hannah Wunderlich (Methuen, Mass.) combined for a time of 13:16.67. Competing in the 60 meter high hurdle prelims, Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) clocked in at 10.00 seconds, just missing the top eight.
Senior Courtney Luscier (Pittsfield, Mass.) continued her strong senior season as she had the second-fastest preliminary time in the 60 meter dash, 7.76 seconds, before repeating her season-best time in the finals, taking third overall and earning All-Region accolades. In the one mile race, Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) produced a time of 5:16.14, while in the 800 meter race, Macayla LaChance (Peabody, Mass.) notched a time of 2:27.88.
Moving on to the field events, freshman Taylor Nogiec (Berlin, Conn.) took tenth overall as she cleared 5 feet, 1 inches, while Strain and Mia Facchini (Chicopee, Mass.) tied for 11th overall after clearing the same height. In the shot put, Mikaela LoPriore (Niantic, Conn.) placed 17th overall, throwing for 35 feet, 11.25 inches.
Wrapping up the day with the 4x800 relay, the team of Madeia, LaChance, Lauren Duggan (Mansfield, Mass.) and Murdock combined for a time of 10:02.48, taking eighth overall to earn All-Region accolades.
Springfield College will compete next at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet, taking place on Saturday, March 2.
