Medford, Mass. - January 12, 2019 - Senior Abby Tantorski (North Haven, Conn.) and freshman Chloe Dewhurst (Lancaster, Mass.) both picked up individual victories on Saturday afternoon to lead the Springfield College women's track and field team at the Tufts Invitational, an 11-team non-scoring meet hosted in the Gantcher Family Sports and Convocation Center for business.
Tantorski was victorious in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.43 seconds, while Dewhurst won the high jump, clearing 1.68 meters, or 5 feet, 6 inches.
Tantorski and Katie Evans (Holyoke, Mass.) earned a spot in the 60 meter finals after placing in the top eight during prelims, as Evans would take fifth in the finals with a mark of 8.39 seconds, just ahead of Tantorski, who posted a time of 8.42 seconds to take sixth. In the 400 meter dash, Tiffany Tenney (Orange, Mass.) was fifth with a time of 1:03.95.
Senior Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) and Abigail Murdock (Westerly, R.I.) took third and fourth in the 800 meter run, as Madeia's time of 2:25.48 just beat Murdock's 2:30.92, while in the 60 meter hurdles, Katherine Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) took third with a time of 9.93 seconds.
Wrapping up the track events, the 4x200 meter relay team of Tantorski, Tenney, Evans and Elizabeth Herlihy (Shelton, Conn.) produced a second-place finish with a time of 1:50.95.
Following Dewhurst in the high jump was Mia Facchini (Chicopee, Mass.), who was third clearing 1.55 meters, or 5 feet, 1 inches. Also clearing 1.55 meters was Strain and Caroline Hitchcock (Agawam, Mass.), who took fourth and fifth, respectively. In the throwing events, Mikaela LoPriore (Niantic, Conn.) led the Pride, as she took fifth in the shot put with a heave of 11.44 meters, before finishing fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.81 meters.
Next up, Springfield College will travel to Northampton, Mass. and will compete in the Smith College Invitational on Saturday, January 19. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.
