Springfield, Mass. - October 29, 2018 - Springfield College first-year Briana Tovar (Tucson, Ariz.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week.
This marks the second time this season that the Health Science major as earned the weekly honor from the conference.
Tovar was impressive in two conference contests last week in helping Springfield secure the top seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Championship. The first year totaled 36 digs, five aces, and five assists in seven sets worth of work, averaging over five digs per set. In a three-set sweep of Wheaton, Tovar delivered 19 digs and two aces before racking up 17 digs and three aces against Emerson to secure a share of the NEWMAC regular-season title.
The Pride will host a NEWMAC Championship Semifinal on Thursday night in Blake Arena at 7 pm against the quarterfinal winner of Wellesley and WPI.
