Three Women's Volleyball Student-Athletes Garner NEWVA Recognition

Beverly, Mass. - November December 3, 2019 - The Springfield College women's volleyball program had three student-athletes recognized by the New England Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (NEWVA) for their efforts this season on the court this season.

Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.) was one of 10 student-athletes selected to the NEWVA All-New England Second Team, while Katie vonKampen (South Setauket, N.Y.) and Bridget Walsh (Garrison, N.Y.) were among the 37 senior student-athletes selected to compete in the NEWVA Senior Classic All-Star Game and Skills Competition. The event, proudly sponsored by adidas and The Graphic Edge, will be held in the Lahue Physical Education Center on the campus of Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass. on December 9.

Bancroft was recognized on the all-region team as she put together a dominating start to her junior campaign before her season was cut short due to an injury.  In the first 17 matches of the year, the Physical Education major was spectacular in the middle, delivering 216 kills at an average of 3.48 per set, while producing a .444 hitting percentage. At the time of her last appearance of the season on October 1, Bancroft owned the top hitting percentage in Division III with a .444, and had also registered 60 blocks, which ranked tied for second on the team.

In her three seasons at Springfield, vonKampen totaled 411 kills at a .244 clip, to go along with 183 blocks and 80 digs in 73 matches while majoring in Health Science.  Walsh, an Athletic Training major, played in 73 matches in three years and notched 376 kills, while adding 169 blocks and 75 digs.  Thanks to their efforts, Springfield earned a share of the NEWMAC regular-season title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in 2018.

The NEWVA Annual Award recipients are nominated by and voted on by the organization's member head coaches. The coaches represent the seven competing conferences in NCAA Division III including the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), Little East Conference (LEC), Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC), North Atlantic Conference (NAC), New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), and NEWMAC.
