Boston, Mass. - September 18, 2017 - For the second time in the last three weeks, Kristen Madeia (Berlin, Conn.) was honored by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), as she was named the NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week following a standout performance at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational this past weekend.
Madeia was also recognized as the Division III North Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors, announced on Wednesday.
In her second race of the season, Madeia, a junior Business Management major, helped the Pride finish eighth among the 40 teams competing in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. With nearly 300 runners in the varsity 5k race, Madeia finished ninth overall as she clocked in at a personal-best time of 18:49 and averaged a 6:04 mile. Springfield College's eighth-place finish this past weekend marked the Pride's best finish at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational since 2008 when it finished fifth overall.
Springfield College will next race at the Purple Valley Classic in Williamstown, Mass. on Saturday, September 23.
