Women's Volleyball Falls To Tufts, Downs MIT In Second Day of MIT Invitational

 

Cambridge, Mass. – September 27, 2008 – The Springfield College women’s volleyball team split a pair of games against some of the top competition in the region on Saturday afternoon in the second day of the MIT Invitational.

Overall, the Pride finished third in the tourney with a 3-1 record. Tufts won the tourney, while Connecticut College finished second. Springfield is now 13-2 on the season.

The Pride fell in four games to Tufts in its first match of the day, dropping a 25-23, 17-25, 25-18, 25-12 decision, before downing MIT for the second time this week in three games, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21.

In the win over MIT, Heather Lively (Royalston, Mass.) led the Pride attack with 13 kills, while Sarah Lang-Rodean (Mansfield, Conn.) added nine kills . Aylene Ilkson (Baldwin, N.Y.) registered 16 digs, while Heidi Yohe (Deer Park, Wash.) chipped in with 13 digs in the victory.

To start the day, Springfield had its seven-match winning streak snapped by the Tufts Jumbos. Lively, who made the All-Tournament Team, recorded 13 kills in the loss, while Lang-Rodean added 12 kills out of the middle for Springfield.

For her efforts over the weekend, Lively was named to the All-Tournament Team, as the Pride finished third in the 15-team field.

The Pride return to conference action on Tuesday evening when it plays host to Clark at 7:00 pm.
