Primary Insurance - Things to Know
All students are required to carry primary insurance. If a student does not carry insurance through either a parent/guardian or a state plan, the school does offer a primary insurance policy for a fee. Please refer to this page (https://springfield.edu/ orientation/first-year- students/insurance) for further information.
It is the responsibility of the student-athlete to ensure the most up-to-date insurance information is provided to the Athletic Training staff. If you switch insurance during the academic year, please update that information on your ATS profile.
For students carrying insurance through a parent/guardian or state plan, please note the following:
-If you reside outside Massachusetts, you should contact your insurance to ensure adequate coverage is provided in Massachusetts while attending school.
-If your plan offers reduced/no coverage in Massachusetts, you may be able to request an out-of-state rider from your insurance. Your insurance company will be able to answer questions/provide more information.
-For plans that are high-deductible or high cost, you may want to compare your current insurance to the school plan. In certain instances, the school primary policy may end up having better coverage and lower rates.
