Northampton, Mass. – October 23, 2009 – The Springfield College women’s volleyball team suffered a 3-2 loss to Amherst in the opening round of the Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational on Friday evening at Smith College.
Amherst was victorious by the game scores of 19-25, 25-21, 25-15, 23-25, 15-11.
The Pride suffered the five-game setback to fall to 23-4 on the season. Springfield entered the tournament as the third seed, while the Lord Jeffs were ranked sixth. With the loss, Springfield will now play conference-rival Wellesley on Saturday morning at 10:00 am.
Sarah Lang-Rodean finished with a team-best 13 kills, while Heather Lively added 12 kills of her own. Kelsea Hellyar registered 44 assists in the five games, while Meaghan Hart racked up 23 digs. Lauren Torvi totaled eight blocks in the match, including six block assists.
