Northampton, Mass. – October 24, 2009 – The Springfield College women’s volleyball split a pair of matches in the final day of the Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational on Saturday. Springfield fell to conference-rival Wellesley in four games on Saturday morning, before Chelsea Barnicle paced the Pride to a four-game win over Smith in the afternoon.
The split brings Springfield’s record to 24-5 this season.
In the four-game loss to Wellesley, Springfield was led by Heather Lively’s 14 kills. Sarah Lang-Rodean totaled eight kills, while Kim Giaquinto posted six kills and five blocks. The Blue won by the game scores of 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20.
Against the host Smith Pioneers, the Pride won by the game scores of 25-14, 21-25, 25-17, 25-15. Barnicle was tremendous for SC as she posted six aces and 10 digs in the victory. Lively chipped in with 14 kills to power the offensive attack, while Lang-Rodean added 12 kills.
For her efforts, Lively was selected to the all-tournament team.
Springfield returns home to the friendly confines of Blake Arena for a match against WPI on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm.
