Women's Volleyball Cruises Past Clark, 3-0

Worcester, Mass. – September 29, 2009 – The Springfield College women’s volleyball team cruised past Clark in three games on Tuesday evening in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match at the Kneller Athletic Center. The Pride bested the Cougars by the game scores of 25-15, 25-6, 25-14.

With the victory, Springfield improves to 13-2, 2-1 in league play while Clark drops to 3-6, 1-3.

Springfield, the defending NEWMAC Champion, now has the same exact record it had through 15 matches a season ago – a campaign in which they went 32-5 and advanced to the NCAA Regional Semifinals.

Game one proved to be the most competitive, with Clark closing the PrideÂ's early lead before the visitors ran off four straight points en route, to a 25-15 win.

Springfield raced out to an 11-2 lead in game two, eventually taking the game 25-6. The six points registered by the Cougars were the lowest point total in a single game in the Mickey Cahoon era.

Game three was tied a few times in the early moments, but the Pride again ran off several points in a row before settling for a 25-14 victory.

Leading the way on offense for Springfield was All-American Heather Lively, who recorded 11 kills on the night. Defensively, Springfield made its presence felt at the net all match as it had a solid night blocking the Cougars. Lauren Torvi finished the match with six blocks to go along with her seven kills, while Bethany Stosz chipped in with three stuffs.

Springfield will head to New York on Friday as it competes in the Oneonta Invitational over the weekend. The Pride will square off against both Hartwick and Hunter on Friday.
