Women's Volleyball Earns Top Ranking In New England

New London, N.H. – September 24, 2010 – After a 10-1 start to kick off the 2010 season, the Springfield College women’s volleyball team has earned the top ranking in the latest New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Regional Poll.

The Pride, which have gone 5-0 against teams from New England, jumped past Tufts, who was ranked first in New England after the first poll.

UMass-Boston is currently ranked second, while Tufts, Connecticut College, and Williams round out the top five. Coast Guard is the only other school from the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) to be ranked, as the Bears are ranked 11th.

On a national scale, Springfield has continued to receive votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll as is currently ranked 27th in the nation.

Springfield looks to continue its winning ways as it travels to compete in the MIT Invitational this weekend. The Invitational will feature five of the top 15 teams in New England, including four of the top five squads. The Pride’s competition begins on Friday afternoon as it takes on Endicott at 4:00 pm before battling Colby at 8:00 pm.
