Springfield, Mass. – September 3, 2010 – The Springfield College women’s volleyball team opened up the 2010 campaign with a pair of three-game sweeps in the Springfield College Invitational on Friday evening. Springfield dispatched Minnesota Morris, 25-19, 25-18, 25-18, before cruising past Rivier, 25-14, 25-18, 25-21, in the nightcap.
Springfield, which was receiving votes in the AVCA Preseason National Poll, is back in action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Daeman at 12:00 pm.
Senior All-American Heather Lively had a spectacular evening as she posted 24 kills on 46 swings for an impressive .413 hitting percentage. Lively started the night hitting .500 as she totaled 14 kills on 24 swings. She followed that with a 10-kill performance in the win over Rivier.
Kelsea Hellyar handed out 28 assists against Minnesota Morris, while Cassie Seymour was credited with five aces. In the Rivier match, Lauren Torvi registered seven kills at a .454 clip, while Meaghan Hart was responsible for 12 digs and four service aces.
