South Hadley, Mass. – October 2, 2012 – The Springfield College women’s volleyball team hit .428 as it cruised past Mount Holyoke in three sets on Tuesday evening in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) meeting.
Springfield took the match by the scores of 25-11, 25-8, 25-14.
With the win, the Pride improve to 14-3 on the season and 4-1 in league play, while the Lyons slip to 3-7 overall and 0-5 in the NEWMAC.
Senior Mary Consol led the charge with 13 kills and just one error on 16 attempts. She also added three blocks. The Pride had a strong collective team effort as sophomore Whitney Miller added 36 assists, while junior Tessa Smolinski had seven kills, nine digs and four aces in the contest. Kelsey McGayhey chipped in six kills on 11 swings.
In addition to Stephany Yang’s 12 assists and 10 digs, the Lyons also saw first year Emma Sweeting register five kills and a squad-best six digs with two blocks. Sophomore Kaleen Iwema chipped in with three aces and four digs.
Springfield, winners of seven-straight matches, will host the Tom Hay Invitational this weekend. The Pride will kick off play on Friday night with matches against Colby-Sawyer and Montclair State beginning at 5:00 pm.
