Williamstown, Mass. – January 19, 2013 – The Williams College women’s swimming and diving team defeated visiting Springfield College, 187-108, on Saturday afternoon. Kellie Pennington won the 100 free and Jennifer Thompson was victorious on the one-meter board.
In the 100 free, Pennington claimed first-place points with a time of 54.15. Springfield’s other individual victory came from Thompson, who posted a national-qualifying score 284.78. She also finished second on the three-meter with another national-qualifying score of 296.40.
Callie Phillips registered a second-place finish in 1,000 free in 10:52.42, while Ashleigh Monroe was the runner up in the 200 free in 1:57.61 and placed third in the 200 breast in 2:32.91.
In the 200 fly, Kelsey Poole finished second in 2:15.25, followed by Molly Potter’s third-place time of 2:18.79. Poole would later finish third in the 200 back in 2:12.74 and fourth in the 100 fly with a 1:01.29.
Additionally, in the 100 back, Breonna Harrington took third in 1:04.61 and Mary Masayda recorded a third-place finish in the 50 free after touching in 26.14.
In the final race of the afternoon, the 400 free relay team of Phillips, Amanda Shaw, Masayda, and Pennington produced the second-fastest time of 3:42.69.
Springfield will next compete in the Middlebury Invitational on February 1-2.
