Worcester, Mass. – October 8, 2013 – After dropping the opening set, the Springfield College women’s volleyball team regrouped to defeat Clark University in four sets in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday. Set scores were 19-25, 25-18, 25-10, 25-19.
The Pride now improves to 14-1, 6-1 in league play, while the Cougars drop to 7-11, 1-5.
Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) had the finest offensive match of her young career, totaling a season-best 19 kills at a .500 clip to go along with a match-high six blocks. Tessa Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) was equally impressive on the pin, producing 15 kills while hitting .481. She was also credited with match-best 12 digs. Whitney Miller (Cuba, N.Y.) directed Springfield’s offense with 44 assists and Kerry Purcell (Massapequa, N.Y.) chipped in seven kills on 16 errorless swings.
Clark was paced by Shannon Glass-Smythe (Albuquerque, N.M.), who racked up 13 kills and eight digs, while Savonnah Rowe (New York, N.Y.) chipped in with nine kills and three block assists.
Springfield will square off with Roger Williams on Friday in a showdown of two of the top teams in the region. The match starts at 7:00 p.m.
